The organization founded in 2014 is dedicated to the eradication of homelessness by empowering women and their children to overcome life's challenges, realize their potential, define their own destiny and become vital factors in the revitalization and sustainability of their community. With a 130-bed capacity, Solomon’s Temple is the third largest facility in Metropolitan Atlanta which offers emergency housing for homeless women and their children.
Since January, we’ve seen a 25% increase in calls from women in crisis. Many are single mothers facing job loss or fleeing domestic violence. Three of the women currently on campus have college degrees, but due to rising housing costs and unstable work, they ended up without a home. The women and children we serve today are not the same population we served ten years ago. The need is shifting, and we are adjusting to meet it.
This is happening at a time when small and mid-level donations have declined. National data shows that fewer households are giving, and many foundations are holding grant levels steady despite inflation. At the same time, government funding has been reduced. Our organization, like many others, is doing more work with fewer dollars.
Despite these challenges, we have continued to serve over 250 women and children each year. In addition to housing, we provide workforce training, counseling, case management, and help families move into stable, long-term homes. We have also launched a capacity-building campaign to improve and expand our services. The goal is to build our capacity to serve more women and children and make needed upgrades across the facility.
To meet this moment, we’ve increased our fundraising goal for the 2025 gala to $500,000 to reflect the growing demand for our services and the financial realities nonprofits are now facing. Calls for help are up, public funding is down, and private donations have become less predictable. Raising these additional funds will allow us to keep pace with the changing needs of the families who rely on us. It will also ensure that we can continue offering not just a bed for the night, but a path forward through workforce support, trauma recovery, and permanent housing.
